Will Aid – Newsletter
Written by
Welcome to the November edition of our newsletter.
Following the success of Will Aid 2023, we are pleased to announce that we are again collaborating with Will Aid for the 2024 Campaign.
Overview
Will Aid is a charity that runs a campaign during the month of November whereby you get a professionally written Will for a donation to charity. Following your donation, our team of Will Writing Experts will volunteer their time towards drafting your Will, free of charge.
Will Aid has been running since 1988 and Portway Solicitors has proudly partnered with Will Aid since 2012.
Last year alone (2023), we raised over £7,000. Our goal for the November 2024 campaign is to surpass last year’s donations. We are hoping to raise in excess of £20,000 this year.
Here at Portway Solicitors, we are committed to providing a reliable and impactful service, helping you secure your future and that of your loved ones, whilst supporting Will Aid and their 7 partner charities.
Misconceptions about Wills
- Making a Will is long and complicated
Many people believe that the process of making a Will is long and complicated. Luckily, with Portway Solicitors, this is not the case as we have a well thought step by step process, where you will receive expert guidance from legal professionals throughout the entire process. They will guide and advise you on things to think about and inform you of the progress at every step of the process.
We aim to make the process as simple and easy for you as we deal with your concerns, doubts and queries.
Let us deal with the complexities of the law, so that you can be assured that your loved ones will be cared for when you are not around anymore.
- Making a Will is expensive
Many people assume that creating a Will is expensive. However, campaigns like Will Aid make it affordable for everyone. The recommended donation to Will Aid is £100 for a basic Single Will or £180 for a basic Mirror Will.
Importance of having a Will
Not having a Will can often lead to disagreements or conflicts between your loved ones when you have passed on. However, a Will ensures that your wishes can be carried out exactly as you plan. A Will allows you to control how your assets and property are distributed after you die. It can also help to reduce stress for your loved ones, avoid arguments, and ensure that your wishes are carried out.
Why choose Portway Solicitors?
At Portway Solicitors, we have a dedicated team that oversees the entire Will Aid campaign. This allows us to maximise our capacity and meet with as many clients as possible to discuss their concerns, guide them and eventually draft their Wills.
With our combined years of experience of over 20 years, Portway Solicitors will bring you compassionate and tailored guidance in drafting your Will. In addition, we are committed to ensuring that the process is as smooth as possible. Our Expert team is available for consultations over the phone or in person at our office.

Some common questions that we receive from those considering drafting a Will:
Why should I have a Will?
- A Will allows your wishes to be followed and gives you peace of mind, knowing that your friends, families and loved ones are provided for.
When should I update my Will?
- We suggest updating your Will whenever there are significant changes in your life such as, but not limited to, marriage, divorce, birth of a child or death of a beneficiary.
Should I name more than one executor and Trustee?
- We suggest naming an alternative executor and trustee as there may be an event where the first is unable to fulfil their duty or predeceases you. This ensures that your wishes are followed.
